Place: Sandy Hook Unit of Gateway National Recreation Area

Highlands, NJ

Date: Monday, January 13, 2025

Time: 11:00 am meet in parking LOT D for a brief orientation.  Low tide is around 2 pm.

Sandy Hook has a collection of historic buildings, wetlands, a river, a bay, Atlantic Ocean beaches and former military grounds.  There is also a nicely restored lighthouse.

There is plenty of wildlife present and harbor seals have been using the rocks in the bay for resting in the winter months. The best chance to see them is as low tide approaches but there are other variables that impact their routines.  A long lens above 400 mm is best to capture them.  A tripod is highly recommended.

There are a lot of interesting subjects to shoot even if the seals are not available.

The theme for this outing is feathers and fur.  Birds and mammals are present at Sandy Hook and it is good for practicing your wildlife photography skills. Photos should be shared on Facebook.

There will be a brief lesson on tripod usage for those that are interested.

Please sign-up online on our club page for this event.

Do not feed the animals as the rangers are writing tickets for this offense.
