Revolutionary War Encampment at Jockey Hollow Field Trip
Sunday, April 21, 2013 9:00am till 5:00pm
The Continental Army encampment comes to life as Revolutionary War soldiers, their wives and children return to Jockey Hollow for Encampment Weekend. It's an event full of activities for the whole family.
Encampment Weekend will let you discover the experiences a soldier went through during the Spring of 1780 in Jockey Hollow. Throughout the encampment site you will be able to experience many parts of camp life. See cooking demonstrations, or participate in our Kid's Drill, where the whole family can learn to be colonial soldiers. Re-enactors will demonstrate various Revolutionary War military tactics and maneuvers throughout the weekend, and the best part is that all activities are free!
This event runs both Saturday the 20th and Sunday the 21st BUT the Sparta Camera Club trip is scheduled for Sunday the 21st. The encampment runs from 9am till 5pm but you are welcome to stay as much or as little as you like during that timeframe.
We will meet up at the Rockaway Townsquare Mall parking lot in the middle of Macy's and Michael's Crafts at 8:00 a.m. that morning and can arrange ride sharing amongst members who are attending. We will be departing the Macy's parking lot at 8:15am. Or you are welcome to meet us directly at Jockey Hollow park. (driving directions below)
The event itself is free and there is no cost for admission to the park. Even though the cost is free, please sign up through the event page on the spartacameraclub.org site, so that we know who is planning to attend.
